Girls come from all sides of town, all types of schools, and all different backgrounds. Their common goal is to gain new friends and have a fabulous leadership experience.
The Patty Wood Girls Leadership Experience (PWGLE) was established in 2014 to honor Patty Wood and recognize her commitment to girls, golf, and leadership. The program helps girls age 12 to 14 learn to stand up and speak up as leaders. Participants Discover, Dare and Do: to lead themselves and to lead others. A variety of leaders help the girls explore topics such as communication, self-confidence, and goal setting.
Through top-notch leaders, PWGLE brings together The First Tee’s Life Skills Experiences with special leadership-focused programming designed to help girls explore their mind, body and spirit connection. Girls dig deep into leadership exploration and experimentation. PWGLE offers girls the chance to discover leadership, dares them to experiment with leadership and then lets them do – be a leader. The participants work together with their peers to discover what it means to be a leader. They dare each other to set leadership goals and experiment with new leadership skills. The girls present their ideas about what it means to stand up and speak up as leaders and participate on a Q&A leadership panel.
After participating in the program girls have the opportunity to put their leadership skills into action as PWGLE mentor. The mentors lead and support girls who are new to PWGLE. Mentors also gain project management experience when they help plan and implement community outreach and learning enrichment events and activities.
