JUNIOR GOLFER WILL BISHOP WINS
2009 WALMART FIRST TEE OPEN AT PEBBLE BEACH

PEBBLE BEACH, CA (Sept.  6, 2009) – Will Bishop, age 16, from Lexington, KY and Champions Tour professional David Eger, finished 17-under par to win the pro/junior title at the Walmart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach.

The sixth annual Walmart First Tee Open at Pebble Beach is an official Champions Tour event that pairs 78 junior golfers with 78 professionals. The tournament took place Sept. 4 – 6 at Pebble Beach Golf Links and Del Monte Golf Course.  Bishop was one of 22 junior golfers who made the cut to play the third and final round on Sunday at Pebble Beach Golf Links and is a member of The First Tee of Lexington.

Bishop is an 11th grader at Paul Laurence Dunbar School. When he graduates he hopes to play college golf and then turn professional.  Bishop began playing golf at age 2 and was influenced by his father.

“This has been an extraordinary tournament.  The professional golfers truly make our junior participants feel so special and they truly work closely with them throughout the week helping them learn more about the game and life,”said Joe Louis Barrow, Jr. CEO of The First Tee.   “We are very proud of Will for winning the pro/junior competition and forever grateful to Walmart and General Mills for their continued support and commitment to The First Tee,” Barrow added.

Walmart and the Champions Tour have partnered with The First Tee to promote The First Tee Life Skills Experience, which gives young people of all backgrounds an opportunity to develop life-enhancing values such as confidence, perseverance and judgment through golf and character education.
