GOLF DIGEST U.S. OPEN CHALLENGE TO BENEFIT JUNIOR PROGRAMS

50K Will Be Contributed to The First Tee

NEW YORK (June 3, 2008) — Golf Digest announced today that the inaugural Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge will benefit junior programs including The First Tee, a youth organization dedicated to developing life-enhancing values through golf. A $50,000 donation will be split among five Southern California Chapters of The First Tee, including The First Tee of  San Diego, which is local to the site of this year’s U.S. Open Championship. An additional $50,000 will be contributed to other junior programs.

The Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge was created to give one average golfer in America the opportunity to try and beat a score of 100 on a U.S. Open course while playing under strict USGA regulations. The winner of the Challenge would be joined by three celebrities and their round taped by NBC Sports.

The inaugural winner, John Atkinson from Omaha, NE, will play with NBC “Today” show host Matt Lauer, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo and singer/actor Justin Timberlake at Torrey Pines Golf Course (South Course), the site of the 2008 U.S. Open. The round will air on NBC on Sunday, June 15th from 2-3pm ET immediately before final-round coverage of the 2008 U.S. Open Championship.

“The essence of the U.S. Open Challenge was to create a life-changing experience for one average golfer,” said Jerry Tarde, Chairman and Editor-In-Chief of Golf Digest. “The First Tee is creating opportunities like this every day for thousands of children around the world and we are very proud to help their cause.”

“The First Tee is grateful to Golf Digest for selecting our Southern California Chapters as beneficiaries of this event,” said The First Tee Chief Executive Officer Joe Louis Barrow, Jr.  “As a Trustee, Golf Digest has supported our mission, sponsored several programs and created tremendous exposure for The First Tee through its three flagship publications.”
